Fitzroy, Nancy Deloye
Nancy D. Fizroy

ASME President, 1986-1987

An active sportswoman, a licensed airplane and helicopter pilot, and a sailor, Nancy Deloye Fitzroy is a native of Pittsfield, Massachusetts. She has been with the General Electric Company in Schenectady, N.Y. since 1950, serving in a number of engineering capacities.  She is currently Manager, Energy and Environmental Programs, Turbine Marketing and Projects Operation.

At the beginning of her career with GE she was among the first engineers to work on the heat transfer of nuclear reactor cores.  Since then she has worked in corporate research and development and consulted on technical problems in the fields of heat transfer, gas turbines, nuclear energy, and space vehicles. She also worked on the first of the satellites that was placed into orbit for GE.

A Fellow of ASME, Mrs. Fitzroy has been actively involved in the Society for 30 years. She has served on the Board of Governors, as senior vice president and chairman of the Council on Public Affairs, and as Vice President, Policy Board, Professional and Public Affairs.  She has also been a member of the ASME National Nominating Committee, chairman and active member of the Hudson-Mohawk Section, and an active member of the Heat Transfer Division.

Mrs. Fitzroy has written more than 100 technical papers and articles, served for 20 years as the editor of GE newsletter on heat transfer and fluid flow, and has contributed to and edited a GE handbook on heat transfer and fluid flow. She holds three patents.

She received her B.ChE. degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York and is a registered professional engineer in that state.

She is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and a life member of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).  She served on the Council on Public Affairs of the American Association of Engineering Societies.

In 1972 she received the Achievement Award of SWE and in 1975 she was named recipient of the Demers Medal of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Cosmopolitan magazine featured Mrs. Fitzroy as one of five women engineers of achievement in 1976.  She received the General Electric Company Power Systems Sector Engineering Award in 1979.

She is listed in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who of American Women, World’s Who’s Who of Women and Who’s Who in Engineering

She is married to Roland V. Fitzroy, JR., an electrical engineer at GE.
