Evans, Oliver
(1755-1819), U.S. inventor, was an innovative millwright, who created the first continuous production line (1784), as well as pioneered the high-pressure steam engine (1790), building the first one in the United States. He was born Sept. 13, 1755, near Newport, Delaware, and died April 15, 1819, New York City.
