Copeland, Charles W.
(1815-1895), a founding member of ASME (known for suggesting the name of the society), designed machinery for the Fulton (first steam war-vessel for U.S. Navy) and other notable ships, including merchant steamers that set transatlantic records. He was born 1815 in Coventry, Conn., and died Feb. 5, 1895, Brooklyn, New York.
