An Authorized Inspection Agency is an organization designated by, or approved by a jurisdiction  that accepts one or more Sections of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code as a means to satisfy legal or regulatory requirements.

It may be either:

• a jurisdiction that accepts and does administer one or more construction code sections of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code as a means to satisfy legal or regulatory requirements; or
• an insurance company which has been licensed or registered by the appropriate authority of a state of the United States of America, or of a province of Canada, to write boiler and pressure vessel insurance in such state or province.
